Allgaier takes Pocono after Byron push on final restart
Summary
Justin Allgaier won the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Pocono Raceway after surviving a chaotic finish that featured a record 10 cautions, 18 lead changes and multiple late restarts. On the decisive restart with two laps remaining, William Byron gave Allgaier a push in Turn 1, and Allgaier slipped past Sheldon Creed and Sam Mayer before pulling away to secure the victory. Brent Crews finished second, Byron was third, Mayer was fourth and Creed was fifth.
The win was Allgaier’s fifth of the season, his 33rd career series victory and his first at Pocono. He beat Crews by 0.607 seconds and extended his championship lead to 250 points over Jesse Love. Love was involved in an early Lap 1 crash, finished 36th and completed only one lap, while Corey Day was also eliminated in the opening incident.
Mayer said he did not blame Creed for the final-lap move, saying both drivers were racing for the win. He said the bottom lane was difficult into Turn 1 on the final lap. Mayer remained without a win in 2026 but had three top-five finishes in his last four races and moved up to ninth in the points standings after Pocono. The series next races at its inaugural street event at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego next Saturday.
