Dreyer & Reinbold to Buy RLL Charter for Full-Time IndyCar Return

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing plans to return to full-time NTT IndyCar Series competition in 2027 after agreeing to buy one of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s charters, a move that still needs IndyCar approval. The charter purchase would give the Carmel, Indiana-based team a path back to a full-time program for the first time since 2012, with the team saying the return honors late founder Dennis Reinbold’s legacy and reflects more than a century of family ties to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing said the sale will allow it to shift to a two-car full-time operation in 2027 as it prepares for IndyCar’s next-generation car. Bobby Rahal said the change fits the team’s long-term plans and lets it focus resources on the new machine. Derek Reinbold said the move also reflects the growth of IndyCar.

The deal is the first official charter transfer since IndyCar introduced the system in late 2024. Penske Entertainment CEO Mark Miles said the charter framework is working as intended, and both teams said the agreement followed conversations that began when the system was created. Dreyer & Reinbold entered its 27th Indianapolis 500 in May.
