Drudi repeats LMGT3 pole for Heart of Racing Aston Martin
Summary
Hyperpole qualifying at the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans set the LMP2 and LMGT3 starting grids, but a post-qualifying stewards' decision reshaped the provisional order. Esteban Masson recorded the fastest LMP2 Hyperpole lap, a 3:32.855 in the No. 29 Forestier Racing by Panis Oreca, yet a one-place grid penalty issued to Louis Rousset for impeding an LMGT3 car in a time trial moved IDEC Sport's No. 28 ORECA 07‑Gibson to the LMP2 pole. Job van Uitert had posted a 3:33.242 for the No. 28 in Hyperpole, and the No. 29 was moved to start second as a result of the stewards' action.
The rest of the LMP2 Hyperpole order featured the No. 24 Nielsen Racing ORECA driven by Jack Doohan in third, the No. 43 Inter Europol entry with Nick Yelloly fourth, and the No. 4 CrowdStrike Racing by APR entry with Alex Quinn fifth. Tom Dillmann had topped the first LMP2 qualifying session with a 3:33.7 lap, and the No. 29 had also shown strong pace earlier in FP3 with a 3:34.252.
In LMGT3, Mattia Drudi secured pole for a second consecutive year in the No. 27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin with a 3:52.433. Alessio Rovera qualified second in the No. 21 Vista AF Corse Ferrari, and the two Akkodis ASP Lexus entries driven by José María López and Jack Hawksworth followed on the starting order. Source reports noted that Jack Hawksworth and other LMGT3 runners had shown early speed in practice, and that several cars were eliminated before Hyperpole 2, with the No. 34 Corvette excluded from further running for excessive rear strake wear.
