First Standalone IndyCar Game in 20 Years Lands in 2027
Summary
iRacing and INDYCAR said their standalone video game, IndyCar Racing The Game, will now launch in early 2027 after initially being planned for 2026. The title, developed by iRacing Studios, will be the first standalone IndyCar game in more than 20 years and the first officially licensed IndyCar video game since 2004.
The game is slated for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC through Steam. iRacing said it will use its existing simulation engine and assets, with INDYCAR describing the project as a hyper-realistic, authentic open-wheel racing experience.
The game will include Indianapolis Motor Speedway along with street circuits, road courses and ovals, and it is expected to arrive before the 2027 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. INDYCAR said the game is intended to capture the speed and drama of the series for a new generation of fans. INDYCAR Chief Marketing Officer Alex Damron said the series has "some of the most competitive and action-packed racing in the sport," and iRacing president Tony Gardner said the company wants to create an experience worthy of the INDYCAR name.
