Formula E unveils record 21-race 2026-27 Gen4 calendar
Summary
Formula E and the FIA have unveiled a provisional 2026-27 calendar that will launch the championship’s Gen4 era and feature a record 21 races, the largest schedule in series history. The season is set to open with a nighttime double-header in Jeddah on Dec. 18-19, 2026, after pre-season testing at Jarama from Nov. 16-20. Formula E said the expanded calendar was built around the new Gen4 car, which is being described as the championship’s fastest and most powerful machine, with more than 800bhp, a top speed of 208 mph, permanent all-wheel drive and a larger, heavier design.
The biggest venue changes include London moving from the ExCeL Centre to Brands Hatch, where the London E-Prix will stage a doubleheader on May 29-30. Brands Hatch will become Formula E’s third British venue after Battersea Park and ExCeL, and its first world championship race since the 2010 World Touring Car Championship. The new schedule also adds or brings back races at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas, Zandvoort and Madrid, while familiar stops such as Mexico City, Berlin, Monaco, Shanghai and Tokyo remain on the calendar.
Formula E said Season 13 will include three classic Formula 1 circuits and more purpose-built tracks than previous seasons, as the championship moves slightly away from its traditional city-centre identity while still racing in major urban venues. The calendar also includes doubleheaders at Zandvoort and Shanghai, and the season is set to finish with a Tokyo doubleheader on July 24-25, 2027, pending approval from the FIA World Motor Sport Council. Series chief championship officer Alberto Longo said the schedule was built to maximize sporting drama and sustainability, while FIA circuit sport department chief Marek Nawarecki said the updated format was designed to highlight the performance of the Gen4 car.
