KTM Secures Approval for Crucial Restructuring Plan

    Feb 25th, 2025

    Summary

KTM has secured creditor approval for its restructuring plan in Austria, a crucial step to avoid bankruptcy and ensure the company's continued operations. The plan involves repaying €548 million, which is 30% of its substantial debt exceeding €2 billion, with the payment scheduled for completion by the end of May 2025. After a period of self-administration that began in November 2024 to tackle financial challenges, KTM has gained stakeholder confidence and plans to resume production by mid-March after a temporary halt.

Under co-CEO Gottfried Neumeister's leadership, the restructuring includes significant operational changes, such as reducing the workforce from approximately 6,100 to 4,400 employees. Although there were concerns about potential cancellations in motorsport due to financial strains, plans for continuity in its MotoGP program have been reaffirmed, with KTM committed to participating in upcoming seasons and adapting to new regulations set for 2027. The confirmation of the restructuring plan by the courts is expected in June 2025, promising a more stable outlook for the company’s financial situation and its role in the motorcycle racing industry.
