Audi Completes Full Acquisition of Sauber F1 Team

Audi has successfully completed its full acquisition of the Sauber Formula 1 team ahead of the 2025 season, investing approximately €600 million. This transition, finalized in January 2025, marks a shift from Audi’s initial intent to secure a minority stake to full ownership, with the company set to debut as a works team in 2026. As part of this transformation, Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto will race for the team, following the departure of drivers Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas.

The acquisition is bolstered by support from the Qatar Investment Authority, which holds a 30% stake in Sauber Holding AG. Leadership within the team is also changing, with Jonathan Wheatley expected to join Audi F1 ahead of schedule, enhancing the team's preparations for the upcoming season. The project will be led by Mattia Binotto, the former team principal of Ferrari, as Audi gears up to compete effectively with a new power unit that meets the forthcoming technical regulations.
