McLaren Completes Full Acquisition of IndyCar Team

McLaren Racing has successfully completed the full acquisition of the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team, effective December 31, 2024. This marks the culmination of a gradual buyout that began when McLaren purchased a 75% stake in the team from previous owners Sam Schmidt and Ric Peterson in 2021. The partnership commenced in 2020 and has significantly contributed to the evolution and success of the team in the IndyCar Series.

With this acquisition, Schmidt and Peterson will step away from team ownership, both expressing pride in the achievements made during their tenure and appreciation for the collaboration with McLaren. Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, emphasized the significance of this move in strengthening their presence in North America, as the team prepares to race with a three-car lineup in the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, featuring drivers Pato O’Ward, Nolan Siegel, and Christian Lundgaard. This strategic shift underscores McLaren's commitment to expanding its motorsport interests and capabilities within the competitive landscape of IndyCar racing.
