Mercedes Fined €10,000 for Tyre Procedure Violation

Mercedes has been fined €10,000 for violating technical directive TD003 by making unapproved tyre pressure adjustments on both cars during the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix. The team altered the tyre pressures after an aborted start, despite only receiving a 10-minute notice for adjustments. Such changes are only permitted when the wheels are off the car, which led to this procedural breach. The FIA's technical delegate noted that these adjustments were made while the wheels were still mounted, thus contravening regulations.

While the FIA stewards acknowledged the unusual circumstances surrounding the event, they deemed a fine appropriate rather than a more severe sporting penalty. Both drivers, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, are currently under investigation for their roles in the adjustments. The stewards emphasized that future breaches of this nature would likely result in stricter penalties compared to this instance.
