New Rookies and Iconic Numbers in 2025 F1

The 2025 Formula 1 entry list has announced the race numbers for four new rookies: Kimi Antonelli (#12) with Mercedes, Jack Doohan (#7) with Alpine, Ollie Bearman (#87) with Haas, and Gabriel Bortoleto (#5) with Sauber. Notably, the second team of Red Bull has been rebranded as Visa Cash App Racing Bulls to enhance clarity regarding its identity. The allocation of these numbers was influenced by a two-year vacancy rule following the retirements of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, which has allowed the return of their iconic numbers.

Doohan originally sought to use number 12, but Antonelli secured it first, leading Doohan to choose number 7, previously associated with Raikkonen. With Bortoleto taking number 5, last used by Vettel, it marks a significant revival for both numbers on the grid. Additionally, the entry list includes Sergio Perez driving for Red Bull and a 'TBC' slot that may go to Yuki Tsunoda or Liam Lawson. The highest number for the upcoming season will be number 87, used by Bearman, signifying a fresh batch of talent alongside veteran legacies.
