Di Grassi delivers Lola Yamaha ABT's first win

Formula E’s Shanghai E-Prix delivered two wet, strategy-heavy races over the weekend, with Pascal Wehrlein winning Round 12 for Porsche on Saturday before Lucas di Grassi took Round 13 for Lola Yamaha ABT on Sunday. Wehrlein started from pole and used a well-timed PIT BOOST as heavy rain and a safety car period reshaped the race, finishing 1.633 seconds ahead of António Félix da Costa to claim his 10th career Formula E victory. Jake Dennis was third, Felipe Drugovich fourth and Nyck de Vries fifth.

Di Grassi’s victory came in Sunday’s 28-lap Round 13 and gave Lola Yamaha ABT its first Formula E win. He passed Jean-Éric Vergne and Joel Eriksson late in the race to secure the result in chaotic conditions that included safety car starts, attack-mode strategy and a late full-course yellow. Vergne finished second, Eriksson took third for his first Formula E podium, and Drugovich, who had started from pole, finished sixth. Wehrlein was fourth, Sébastien Buemi was fifth and Oliver Rowland finished eighth. Mitch Evans did not start because of a DC/DC converter issue.

The weekend also shifted the title picture. Reports varied on the exact championship gap after Round 12, but Wehrlein had already cut into Evans’ lead before Sunday’s race and moved back into the championship lead after Round 13. Jaguar TCS Racing remained first in the teams’ standings after Round 12, Porsche stayed on top of the manufacturers’ championship, and the series was set to move on to Tokyo later in the month.
