DS Withdraws from Formula E After 11 Seasons, Leaving Four Titles, 18+ Wins

DS Automobiles will withdraw from the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship at the end of Season 12 and will not continue into the Gen4 era. The company said the decision is part of a strategic shift in its sporting and technology programme toward SailGP and golf-related initiatives, and confirmed it will leave the series after the London season finale Race in August. Formula E confirmed DS’s planned exit, thanked the brand for its contribution and teased an "exciting championship announcement" in the coming days.

The departure closes an 11-season run that began in Season 2 (2015–16) with Virgin Racing and later included a partnership with Techeetah that delivered back-to-back drivers’ and teams’ titles with Jean-Éric Vergne and António Félix da Costa. Those consecutive doubles gave DS four championships, making it the first manufacturer in the series to secure consecutive double titles. Across its Formula E history DS recorded at least 18 race wins and 55 podiums and moved to a Penske partnership for the Gen3 era in 2023.

DS’s current driver line-up is led by Maximilian Günther alongside rookie Taylor Barnard. Günther won two races in the 2025 campaign; those Race victories contributed points toward the drivers’ championship. Barnard’s fourth place in the Mexico City Race is the team’s best result so far in Season 12 and delivered valuable championship points for both driver and team. On-track performances in sessions from FP1 and qualifying (including Q3) through the Race have shaped the team’s points haul this season.

DS’s exit comes amid a wider Stellantis reshuffle of Formula E entries: Citroën has taken over the former Maserati MSG squad, and there is industry speculation that Opel could enter the championship for the 2026–27 cycle. Industry observers and DS described the move as a strategic reorientation of Stellantis’ electric-mobility motorsport investments away from extending DS into Gen4 of Formula E.
