Ed Carpenter Racing extends Christian Rasmussen through 2027 and beyond
Summary
Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR) announced that Christian Rasmussen signed a multiyear contract extension that will keep the 25-year-old behind the wheel of the team’s No. 21 Chevrolet through the 2027 season and beyond. The team said the extension covers at least 2028. Rasmussen, who joined ECR in 2024 and took the full-time No. 21 seat in 2025, said, "I am excited to extend my partnership with ECR for 2027 and beyond," and praised recent changes within the team.
The team framed the deal as both a reward for Rasmussen’s rapid rise through the junior ranks and a strategic move to provide continuity. A former karting champion from Denmark, Rasmussen moved to the United States in 2018 and became only the second driver to win USF2000 (2020), USF Pro 2000 (2021) and Indy NXT (2023). He delivered ECR’s first IndyCar victory at the Milwaukee Mile in 2025 and posted six top-10 finishes that year.
Team owner Ed Carpenter emphasized the value of continuity, citing Rasmussen’s steady development and recent breakthrough results at World Wide Technology Raceway. ECR chairman Ted Gelov and Carpenter said the extension makes Rasmussen one of the longest-tenured drivers in the team’s 15-year history.
The extension comes despite a disappointing start to Rasmussen’s 2026 campaign. The team reported his best result so far this year was a 14th-place finish at Phoenix Raceway, and other accounts put him 24th in the standings with no top-10s through the early season. ECR noted Rasmussen led 69 laps at Phoenix before late-race contact ended his chance at victory and described 2026 as a year with opportunities; the contract, the team said, signals a commitment to retaining young talent and building on momentum from the 2025 win.
Rasmussen and ECR are scheduled to compete in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway on June 7 as the back half of the season moves into several short ovals.
