Felix Rosenqvist wins rain-hit Indy 500 in photo finish over Malukas

Felix Rosenqvist won the rain-affected 110th Indianapolis 500, edging David Malukas in a side-by-side photo finish to take the 200-lap victory for Meyer Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian. The finish capped a chaotic, weather-shaped day at Indianapolis that featured multiple stoppages, late fuel strategy and a dramatic three-wide scramble in the closing laps that set up the photo finish. About 350,000 spectators attended the race.

Rain interrupted the running early. Officials called the race after 100 laps at 2:21 p.m. ET, but rain eased and racing resumed at 2:38 p.m. with Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing out front. The race was later stopped with a red flag for weather on lap 106. A separate late crash by Caio Collet brought out a stoppage with nine laps to go. Josef Newgarden crashed into the wall on Lap 126 at about 3:11 p.m. ET and walked to the ambulance under his own power.

Other incidents included Katherine Legge’s crash that ended her bid to complete the Double; Ed Carpenter’s Lap 27 crash; Alexander Rossi’s retirement after his car caught fire in the pits; and Will Power’s spin on Lap 92 and earlier engine trouble.

The first half featured 45 lead changes. Front-row starters David Malukas, Alexander Rossi and pole-sitter Alex Palou each took turns up front. Palou captured the pole with a four-lap average of 232.248 mph, and Malukas’s front-row start marked Team Penske’s 50th front-row start in 60 years.

Live coverage showed Rosenqvist out front in the closing laps. Teams’ pit strategy, restarts and fuel decisions shaped the late running and set up the final sprint to the line.
