Rosenqvist posts lone 232.599 mph run to lead condensed Indy qualifying

Rain and lightning washed out Saturday practice and qualifying, compressing Indianapolis 500 qualifying into a single Sunday session. IndyCar ran one four-lap attempt per car to lock positions 13-33, with the fastest 12 advancing to later rounds; the midday session set the field that will return at 4:30 p.m. for the Top 12 and again at 6:00 p.m. for the Firestone Fast Six. FS2 carried the noon runs and Fox will broadcast the Top 12 and Fast 6.

Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist led the locked group with the top provisional four-lap average of 232.599 mph, the only driver to reach the 232 mph range in the condensed session. David Malukas, Conor Daly and Scott McLaughlin followed Rosenqvist among the cars locked into the field, with Rinus VeeKay and Alexander Rossi also inside the fastest group. Rookie Caio Collet was the only first-year driver to advance to the next rounds, and defending winner Alex Palou and Kyffin Simpson barely made the Top 12 cutoff. Chevrolet-powered entries filled eight of the top 12 and six of the fastest seven cars.

Takuma Sato missed advancing by 0.1 mph and will start 13th. Andretti Global was described as underperforming, with Kyle Kirkwood relegated to the back rows, Marcus Ericsson 18th and Will Power 20th. The opening qualifying run lasted about 2.5 hours, was reported clean and incident-free, and left Ed Carpenter and Christian Rasmussen having recovered from high-speed wiggles without contact, preserving both cars for Race day. These starting positions will set the Race grid and will influence championship standings as the season progresses.
