Jaminet puts Genesis fastest in FP2 at Sao Paulo
Summary
Genesis Magma Racing ended Friday on top of the WEC practice timesheets at Interlagos, with Mathieu Jaminet posting a 1:24.271 in the #19 GMR-001 to lead FP2 by 0.060 seconds. It was Genesis’ first top session result in FIA WEC and came in the team’s fourth weekend as a Hypercar manufacturer, with the field tightly packed and 15 of the 17 Hypercars separated by nine-tenths of a second. Aston Martin’s Valkyries were second and third, Cadillac’s two entries took fourth and fifth, Alpine was sixth and Peugeot’s #93 was last among the Hypercars on hard tires. The session ran without major incidents and all 35 cars completed laps.
Harry Tincknell had opened the day by leading FP1 in an Aston Martin Valkyrie, edging Ferrari’s Antonio Fuoco by 0.024 seconds after Robert Kubica briefly went fastest before his lap was deleted for a violation. Ferrari’s Antonio Giovinazzi placed third, Alpine’s best car was fifth, and Toyota’s best result was 12th in the session. FP1 stayed green apart from a brief full-course yellow for debris and was otherwise largely clean.
LMGT3 was topped in FP1 by Maxime Martin in the #61 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG, with the Corvette and WRT BMW next, and five different manufacturers filled the top five. In FP2, Clemens Schmid led the class in the #87 Akkodis ASP Lexus in 1:34.498, 0.037 seconds ahead of the sister Lexus, while Heart of Racing’s Aston Martin and McLaren’s #58 followed. The final free practice session was set for Saturday morning at 10:10 a.m. local time.
