Late Pass Lifts Rivera to Sprint Race Victory

Ernesto Rivera claimed his first Formula 3 victory in the Austrian Grand Prix sprint race at the Red Bull Ring, taking the win for Campos after a late pass on James Wharton. Rivera started second on the grid and stayed in the fight throughout the race before moving ahead of Wharton on Lap 14, then using a DRS gap to hold the lead to the finish.

Wharton, who started from pole and made the better launch into Turn 1, led early before Rivera’s decisive move. Wharton slipped to fourth after losing positions on the final lap, while Rivera’s breakthrough made him the winner of the Formula 3 Spielberg Sprint Race.

Pedro Clerot finished second for Rodin Motorsport and Jin Nakamura took third for Hitech. Noah Stromsted recovered from an opening-lap collision to finish fifth. The race featured an early Safety Car after a TRIDENT incident and a later Virtual Safety Car for debris after contact between Fionn McLaughlin and Enzo Deligny. Ugo Ugochukwu left Spielberg with a one-point lead over Théophile Nael in the drivers’ championship, and Campos Racing stayed top of the teams’ standings.
