Toyota Ends Ferrari's Le Mans Reign in Nail-Biter
Summary
Toyota won the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the No. 7 Toyota shared by Kamui Kobayashi, Nyck de Vries and Mike Conway taking the checkered flag 10.981 seconds ahead of BMW’s No. 20 entry. It was Toyota’s sixth overall Le Mans victory and its first since 2022, ending Ferrari’s three-year winning streak. Toyota’s No. 8 finished third, Cadillac’s No. 12 was fourth and Ferrari’s best-placed car came home fifth.
The No. 7 Toyota spent much of the race chasing the leaders before making a late charge. A safety car in the 19th hour and a full-course yellow in the 22nd helped Toyota move into position to take control in the closing stages. Toyota’s No. 8 car had set the early pace after a bold opening-hour strategy and stayed in the mix as the lead changed hands between Toyota, BMW and the Jota-run Cadillacs.
The race featured frequent cautions, pit-cycle swings and setbacks for several contenders. Cadillac’s No. 12 and No. 38 entries both spent time at the front before the No. 12 finished fourth, while Ferrari’s No. 50 suffered a fire-extinguisher issue that led to ECU repairs and put it out of contention. In the end, Toyota and BMW were separated by just 10.981 seconds as the fight for overall victory came down to the final hours.
