Zilisch, Hill and van Gisbergen caught in restart crash

    Summary

Shane van Gisbergen, who had started on pole and had skipped the stage points, saw his race end on Lap 32 when a restart crash at Turn 1 collected him, Austin Hill, Connor Zilisch and several others. The incident came immediately after a caution for Brent Crews’ blown engine and triggered the first red flag in NASCAR Cup Series history at Naval Base Coronado.

Hill missed the apex, washed up the track and shoved Zilisch into the outside wall, setting off a chain reaction that involved nine drivers in all. Michael McDowell and Riley Herbst were among the drivers collected.
