F1 Stewards Rule Crash a Racing Incident

Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz avoided penalties for their collision at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after stewards deemed it a racing incident, with neither driver being predominantly at fault. The incident occurred on the penultimate lap, causing both drivers to retire from the race.

The crash occurred when Sainz overtook Perez, who then fought back and the two cars collected each other, causing them to crash into the barrier. Sainz claimed he did nothing wrong and was simply drifting towards the left, while Perez felt there was plenty of room between the cars before the collision. The FIA stewards investigated the incident and found that neither driver was predominantly at fault, with Sainz moving slightly towards Pérez's car and Pérez not doing enough to avoid the collision. The incident was a bitter pill for both teams to swallow, as it knocked both out of contention for a podium position.
