    Summary

Rwanda has made a formal bid to host a Formula 1 race, announced by President Paul Kagame during the FIA's general assembly in Kigali. This initiative is a notable effort to reintroduce F1 to Africa, a continent that hasn't seen a race since 1993. Plans are in motion to build a new permanent racing circuit near the Bugesera airport, designed by former F1 driver Alexander Wurz, with an expected completion date of 2026.

The proposal is seen as a way to enhance motorsport and tourism in Rwanda, utilizing the region's unique hilly terrain to create an exciting track. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has praised Rwanda's growing influence in motorsport and is enthusiastic about continued collaboration. Moreover, drivers like Lewis Hamilton have voiced their support, underscoring the importance of representation for Africa within the global motorsport community. If successful, this bid could mark a transformative chapter for motorsport on the continent.
