Verstappen Questions Rivals' Technical Compliance Ahead of 2025

Max Verstappen has raised concerns about possible technical rule violations by rival teams during the 2024 season, particularly focusing on the use of flexi wings and unconventional tire cooling methods. Although he did not name specific teams, Verstappen felt that these "background" actions impacted Red Bull's performance throughout the season. Despite clinching his fourth Drivers' title, he acknowledged that the team struggled with their RB20 car's balance and competitiveness, especially against rivals McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes, particularly in the latter half of the year.

Verstappen referenced ongoing technical controversies, including those surrounding McLaren's so-called "mini-DRS," as potential infringements of the regulations. Even though the FIA conducted investigations and found no rule breaches, Verstappen remains skeptical that some competitors may have taken advantage of loopholes, leading to stricter regulations for the upcoming 2025 season. For Red Bull to maintain a competitive edge and aim for a fifth consecutive title, he emphasized the urgent need for improvements in the car's handling, particularly when navigating kerbs and slow corners. Without these enhancements, he conceded that repeating their championship success may prove difficult.
