Citroën Formula E principal Cyril Blais dies at 46

Citroën Formula E team principal Cyril Blais has died at the age of 46, according to a joint statement from Monaco Sports Group, Citroën Racing, Stellantis Motorsport, Formula E and the FIA. The cause of death was not disclosed, and the organizations said no further details would be shared out of respect for his family’s privacy.

Blais began his motorsport career as an engineer in Formula 3 with Manor Motorsport before later serving as technical director at Arden in Formula 3 and Formula 2. He moved to Formula E in 2019 with Mahindra, joined the MSG-run team in 2022, and was promoted to team principal in 2024 as the operation transitioned from Venturi to Maserati and then Citroën. Citroën and Stellantis Motorsport said he played a major role in the program from the start of their collaboration.

Under Blais’s leadership, the team won two races, including this season’s Mexico City E-Prix with Nick Cassidy. The team said it would continue racing in his memory and with the dedication and passion he brought to the organization. Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds said the paddock would pay tribute to Blais during this weekend’s Tokyo E-Prix. The statement also said Blais had earned widespread respect for his dedication, integrity and belief in the team, which is seventh in the standings with four races left.
