Dan Ticktum passes Dennis on final lap to win Tokyo

Dan Ticktum won Race 1 of the Tokyo E-Prix for CUPRA KIRO after a last-lap pass on pole-sitter Jake Dennis in a three-way battle that also involved Nick Cassidy. Dennis had controlled much of the race before finishing second, Cassidy was third and Mitch Evans took fourth, while Ticktum’s second Formula E victory moved Evans back into the championship lead after Round 14.

Dennis had taken pole in qualifying with a 1:11.863 lap, beating Edoardo Mortara by 0.052 seconds in the final duel. Mortara had looked strong throughout the day after topping both rain-affected free practice sessions, and António Félix da Costa also qualified near the front. Nico Müller’s semi-final crash caused a red flag, and Felipe Drugovich missed qualifying after a heavy crash in Free Practice Two.

Extreme heat and humidity on the 2.575 km Tokyo street circuit made battery cooling, tire management and Attack Mode timing crucial. Late energy use helped Ticktum close the gap before he made the decisive move on the final lap, and the race was also affected by penalties, collisions and a brief rain shower. Pascal Wehrlein finished 20th after contact and damage.
