Ford Gears Up for 2027 Hypercar Entry

Ford Performance is preparing to enter the Hypercar category in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with an LMDh prototype set to launch by 2027. Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance, detailed the company's strategic focus on its four core racing pillars, including the Mustang and electric vehicles. The decision to choose the LMDh platform over LMH was based on the belief that it will provide better competitive opportunities and facilitate efficient technology transfer.

As Ford selects a chassis partner, ORECA is a likely candidate, and a V8 engine has been confirmed as part of the propulsion strategy, though the specific configuration is still under review. Currently in the design phase, the prototype is scheduled for track testing in 2026. Ford's return to Le Mans is highly anticipated, rekindling rivalries with brands like Ferrari and generating excitement in the motorsport community.
