Michael Cannon Leaves Prema Racing Before Debut

IndyCar engineer Michael Cannon has parted ways with Prema Racing just a month after taking on the role of head of engineering. His departure is particularly surprising given that it comes just ahead of the team’s anticipated debut in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg from February 28 to March 2, 2025. Prior to joining Prema, Cannon had a successful tenure as the technical director at A.J. Foyt Racing, where he notably guided driver Santino Ferrucci to a ninth-place finish in the championship during the 2024 season.

Reports suggest that the reasons behind his exit may be linked to internal management issues and challenges related to working with rookie drivers. Although Cannon was involved in Prema's launch event, his sudden departure raises questions about the team’s readiness for its inaugural season. As Prema Racing prepares to expand to 11 entries, finding a suitable replacement for Cannon has become a pressing concern as they aim to establish themselves in the competitive INDYCAR landscape.
