Yamaha's New V4 Engine Testing Delayed to 2025

Alex Rins recently shared in a podcast that Yamaha is working on debuting a new V4 engine for the M1 during tests at Jerez. However, the engine has yet to receive approval for track usage, and there are indications that its debut could be postponed until mid-2025. This delay stems from the need for a complete redesign of the M1 to accommodate the V4 engine, which differs significantly from the current inline-4 configuration. Although there are concerns about the rush in development, Yamaha may prioritize testing the V4 to gather valuable insights ahead of the new technical regulations set for 2027.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Pre-Winter WorldSBK Jerez Test showcased the Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team's Alex Lowes and Axel Bassani, who topped the session with Lowes achieving a fastest lap of 1:38.355. The testing event attracted a diverse selection of teams, including participants from MotoGP. Notably, Honda's MotoGP test team opted for discretion, employing coded transponders in place of revealing specific lap times. Other competitive riders included Jonathan Rea and Garrett Gerloff, while the test was also marked by incidents, such as a significant crash involving Andrea Locatelli.
