De Palo Seals Maiden F3 Win at Silverstone
Summary
Matteo De Palo claimed his maiden Formula 3 victory at Silverstone in the feature race at the British Grand Prix, taking the lead in the closing stages after a late Safety Car restart and a one-lap sprint to the finish. The TRIDENT rookie, backed by McLaren, started fifth and made the winning move after passing Théophile Nael and Freddie Slater.
The result was reshuffled after Nael received a 10-second penalty for an earlier incident involving Louis Sharp and dropped to 16th in the final classification. Ernesto Rivera was promoted to second and Maciej Gladysz to third. Championship leader Ugo Ugochukwu started 12th and finished sixth, and still led the standings with 97 points after the race.
De Palo’s Silverstone weekend marked a turnaround after he took his first Formula 3 points by finishing fourth in the sprint race. He qualified fifth and said the performance was his cleanest of the season. The series next heads to Spa-Francorchamps for a July 17-19 round.
