Late lap puts Camara on Belgian GP F2 pole at Spa
Summary
Rafael Camara took pole position for the Formula 2 Belgian Grand Prix qualifying session at Spa-Francorchamps on Friday, sealing the top spot with a late lap of 1 minute 56.306 seconds. The Invicta Racing driver claimed his fourth pole of the season and his second straight F2 pole at Spa in a session that was repeatedly interrupted by rain, yellow flags and red flags on a damp track.
Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak finished second, 0.039 seconds behind Camara, for his best Formula 2 qualifying result. Alexander Dunne, who had briefly led qualifying and was the provisional pole-sitter before losing four lap times for track limits violations, ended up third, 0.186 seconds off the pace. Championship leader Nikola Tsolov qualified fourth, and John Bennett took fifth in a career-best result.
The session was stopped twice after incidents. Noel Leon triggered the first red flag after spinning on cold Supersoft tires near Raidillon, Laurens van Hoepen caused the second after stopping on the start-finish straight, and Nico Varrone later crashed into the Turn 14 barrier with under 10 minutes remaining. Sebastián Montoya was promoted to 10th and inherited sprint race pole after Noel Leon lost all of his lap times. The Spa-Francorchamps sprint race is scheduled to start at 14:15 local time on Saturday.
