Rafael Camara secures maiden F2 pole in Monaco after crash repairs
Summary
Rafael Camara claimed his first Formula 2 pole position at Monaco after recovering from a heavy impact that had damaged his car, setting a pole lap of 1:20.923. Invicta Racing's crew repaired the rear-left suspension during an extra pit stop, and Camara's quick return to the track allowed him to convert the recovery into the decisive lap to top his qualifying group and secure the Feature Race pole for Sunday.
The split-group qualifying system produced the front row, with Campos Racing's Nikola Tsolov topping Group B with a 1:21.053 to join Camara on the front row. Alex Dunne qualified third, finishing 0.110 seconds behind Camara in Group A, with Rodin Motorsport team-mate Martinius Stenshorne also high in the order. The session produced close margins and reshuffled starting positions for both the Feature Race and the reverse-grid order for the Sprint Race.
Qualifying was disrupted by two red flags, one triggered by Trident's John Bennett crashing at Sainte Devote/Turn 1 and another after Laurens van Hoepen was left stranded at the Nouvelle chicane following contact with Kush Maini, interruptions that affected final lap attempts. As a result of the session order and reverse-grid rules, Joshua Duerksen (also spelled Durksen in some reports) secured reverse-grid pole for the Sprint Race, which is scheduled for 14:15 local time on Saturday. Formula 2 had returned to Europe for the Monaco round after a run of rounds in North America.
