Carlos Sainz Leads Free Practice 2 in Mexico City

Carlos Sainz set the quickest lap in Free Practice 2 at the Hermanos Rodriguez track with a time of 1m17.699s, following his second-place finish in the opening session. The session was largely irrelevant to the weekend's race action due to a programme of Pirelli tyre testing. However, it was not without incident, as George Russell suffered a heavy crash that caused a lengthy red flag and damage to his Mercedes car. Russell was able to exit the car unaided but was taken to the medical centre for checks, where he was later released with no serious injuries. The crash required a 24-minute break to repair the damaged Tecpro barriers and will likely require lengthy repairs to Russell's car overnight. Max Verstappen's session was also hampered by issues with his Red Bull, while Carlos Sainz topped the times ahead of Oscar Piastri and Yuki Tsunoda.
