Toyota Considers Full-Scale Return to Formula 1

Toyota is exploring a full-scale return to Formula 1 through a technical partnership with the Haas team that commenced in 2024. This marks the company's first significant re-engagement with F1 since it exited the championship in 2009. Masaya Kaji, the global director of Toyota Gazoo Racing, expressed that the exploration of new technologies is pivotal in assessing a return, though he noted that no formal plans are in place yet.

While Toyota had previously stated its intention not to produce its own F1 engine or develop a works team, Kaji indicated a shift in strategy, prioritizing partnerships in the interim. The collaboration with Haas could create opportunities for drivers within Toyota's program to step up to F1, although a complete comeback is considered to be years away. The team's current focus remains on deepening its relationship with Haas and evaluating the feasibility of a full-scale return to the sport in the long term, emphasizing a gradual and strategic approach to re-entering the highly competitive F1 landscape.
